senior level designer || SEPTEMBER 2018 – JUNE 2021

I joined the Crossfire Legion team in late 2018 as a senior level designer and worked on until the end of campaign development. In that time I was primarily responsible for three levels from paper design to shipping, as well as supporting several other levels in later development, and technical support for the wider level design team. I also acted as a design mentor for junior level designers on the campaign team, and assisted level design leadership in sharing design feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Built three levels from paper design to ship – Attack on Mount Riley, Escort the Titan, Endgame
  • Assumed responsibility for finalling other levels from a later functional state
  • Acted as a technical and design support for other level designers, sharing my experience with Unity and Lua as well as general level and mission design experience
  • Built utility libraries of Lua functionality for use by other designers
  • Designed, built, and maintained a skirmish management system for scripting enemy opponents in campaign missions

In addition to my work as a level designer, I made efforts to build up the game’s library of useful scripting behaviour for the other level designers, using Lua’s flexibility to build an entire skirmish AI system for managing the enemies in single player levels, creating interface layer between code functions and mission scripts to streamline common actions and reduce the complexity of debugging problems across multiple levels, and empowering other designers to build custom and non-standard gameplay.
